Thanks Girrrrrl

Someone got a sneak at my resume, and commented on the fact that I was using my middle name, saying that they heard the more ethnic a name sounds, the less likely you are to get hired.

Are you kidding me?

Am I supposed to hide my middle name because it sounds foreign? I’m sorry my mom gave me her maiden name, and that it is Vietnamese.

What really irritated me is the condescending tone this (younger) person used, as if they were teaching me something I didn’t know. And it was said by someone who should have known better.

It’s so endearing when friends ask you what you’re wearing to an event, because they don’t know what to wear. Something about that question makes me smile.

Deconstructing Masculinity & Manhood with Michael Kimmel @ Dartmouth College

You know what I like, and feel is so important? That he doesn’t say “Men thinks those are THEIR positions”. He says “We think those are OUR positions.”

As a male feminist, he still doesn’t exclude himself from the group of men.

10 people applied! Shocking! And we have a lot of new blood (and one freshman!) Very excited for my first committee meeting now! ^___^

I tried. I tried to be the bigger person.

I don’t like miscommunication, but what can you expect? This is real life, not some stupid TV show where you get a heartwarming conversation between two mature people.

I should have expected a bitchy, cold response because that’s exactly what I got.

The important thing is that I tried. Rarely do our best efforts result in anything we can feel happy about, I am trying to keep this in mind, but it’s hard. It’s hard when you feel embarrassed and stupid for trying to clear the air.
